Professional Profile for Christy @ Ambitions Abroad
Christy Herlick Gibson founded Ambitions Abroad in 2004, after working with professionals, scholars, and expatriate families from around the world for about 20 years.
From teaching English conversation in South Korea, to orienting and advising international students about academic expectations on American university campuses, to orienting expatriate families to American social life, to facilitating relationship building between foreign high school exchange students and their American host families, Christy’s expertise in intercultural relations spans a wide range of settings and professional roles.
Christy has substantial experience facilitating intercultural communication training, both online and in traditional classroom settings. She also has managed academic, cultural, and social programs for international scholars and their families at such well-known institutions as the University of California-Berkeley, the University of Washington, the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and San Jose State University.
Christy grew up in a family that hosted many high school foreign exchange students and credits that early intercultural exposure for her passion for international travel and culture. She has lived and worked in Seoul and Pusan, South Korea, has studied abroad in Canberra, Australia, and has traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia for work and pleasure.
Drawing from her professional and personal experience, Christy intuitively understands the needs of expatriates in the USA and enjoys supporting Ambitions Abroad clients in developing a clearer understanding of life the USA, the many nuances of intercultural communication, and the subtleties of the English language.
Christy has an M.A. in Intercultural Relations from Lesley University and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Michigan. She also holds a Certificate in the Essentials of Human Resource Management from the Society for Human Resource Management and is completing a Certificate in Intercultural Studies from the University of British Columbia.
